Microsoft Power BI users have two exciting new reasons to celebrate this week, thanks to game-changing Copilot upgrades that make interacting with data more conversational, accessible, and secure.
Whether you're a seasoned analyst or a business user trying to make sense of the numbers, these new features are set to transform how you explore and visualize data. Let’s dive into what’s new.
“Chat with Your Data” Is Now Live for All Power BI Users
First announced at Build 2025, the highly anticipated “Chat with your Data” experience is officially live and available to all Power BI users.

What Is It?
It’s a full-screen, dedicated Copilot interface that allows users to type natural language questions and receive instant summaries, visuals, and insights powered by AI.
How It Works
Simply type your question in the new Copilot window, and it will:
Search all the data you have access to
Understand your intent
Generate tailored responses like charts, trend summaries, or detailed insights
Example:Ask “What were our top 5 selling products last quarter?” and Copilot will instantly return a dynamic bar chart with the breakdown—no manual filters or dashboards required.
How to Get Started
This feature is off by default and requires admin activation.
Steps:
Go to the Admin Portal
Enable the setting:
“Users can access a standalone, cross-item Power BI Copilot experience.”

Copilot Comes to Embedded Power BI Reports
The second major enhancement is the extension of Copilot to securely embedded Power BI reports. Now, organizations that host Power BI dashboards on their websites or internal portals can offer the same AI-powered insights right within those experiences.

What This Means
The Copilot Report Pane is now embedded alongside your visualizations
Users can ask questions directly within the report interface
Responses appear instantly in context, offering smarter on-page exploration
How to Enable
To activate Copilot in your embedded reports:
Enable the “Copilot” option in your embedded report settings
Ensure:
Copilot is enabled for your org
Your workspace is backed by Power BI Premium or Fabric capacity

Why These Updates Matter
These upgrades represent a huge leap toward conversational analytics, making it easier for everyone in an organization to interact with data naturally and get insights faster.
With Copilot:
No more complex queries
No steep learning curve
No barriers between users and insights
Whether you’re inside the Power BI service or exploring data via a custom website or portal, AI is now your co-analyst, delivering insights securely and at scale.
Conclusion
Power BI’s latest Copilot features underscore Microsoft’s commitment to democratizing data and empowering decision-making across every layer of business.
If you haven’t turned on these features yet, now’s the perfect time to explore the future of analytics, where all you need is a question.
